Productive Efficiency of Potato and Melon Growing Farms in Uzbekistan: A Two Stage Double Bootstrap Data Envelopment Analysis

Abstract: This article is one of the first to carry out a non-parametric efficiency analysis of crop production in Uzbekistan. The study applies the bootstrap Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to compute bias corrected technical efficiency (TE) scores using a sample of farms located in two regions of Uzbekistan. The study also investigates the determinants of TE in potato and melon production. Results indicate that there is room for efficient use of resources. Farmers are found to be more scale-efficient but not productively efficient. Findings from the second stage DEA model display that soil fertility index, farm size, water availability, crop diversification index, dependency ratio, potential to work in large land area, and longer distance to market contribute positively to production efficiency.

Abstract: Since irrigation water is assumedly the predominant factor determining crop yield, the difference in irrigation water availability across the administrative sub-districts of the Khorezm region, Central Asia, also inflicts an unequal distribution of agricultural revenues. Considering the national aim of a fair distribution and efficient use of resources, here we analyze the relationships between irrigation water access and rural welfare from 2000 to 2007 by descriptive statistics. Analyses revealed not only the general dependency of agricultural revenue on irrigation water availability, but also occurrence of low land productivity during water scarce years and, irrespective of the annual water availability, in some tail end regions each year. Furthermore, apart from irrigation water availability, land productivity was also impacted by soil quality, cropping structure, and type of land ownership. Fair distribution of water and land resources should also take into consideration population density. It is argued that an anticipated equal and efficient water allocation necessitates improved irrigation water conveyance, distribution, and application efficiency via best water management practices. Liberalization of markets, development of a market infrastructure and improvement in yields also contribute to increased land and water productivity.

Abstract: This study presents the fabrication and characterization of novel surface-type capacitive humidity sensors using vanadyl phthalocyanine (VOPc) as the active material. The devices, which comprise three different thicknesses, have been fabricated using a thermal evaporator. A thin film of VOPc is deposited on thoroughly cleaned glass substrates with pre-patterned Ag electrodes. The capacitive effect of the samples under humidity has been investigated. Comparison of the samples with different thicknesses shows that the thinnest device seems more sensitive towards humidity. The humidity dependent capacitance properties of the sensor make it beneficial for use in commercial hygrometers.

Abstract: Theoretical and the experimental researches executed in Uzbekistan and abroad explored some ways of a substantiation of a rational profile of a tooth of a saw and its fibre capturing ability. Despite that, untill now, optimum parameters of a saw gin which provides high quality ginning without harming the quality of cotton fibre have not been found. Considering the stated above in the given job the influence of the changed form of saw teeth on fibre-capturing area is examined. The analytical formulas for the additional area promoting to double the fibre capture quantity by saw teeth are received.

Abstract: It’s determined that a phasic dynamics of deformation strengthening of single-crystal silicon irradiated by γ-quanta (with energy ~1.27 MeV) in the range of radiation absorbed doses from 102 up to 109 rad by the internal friction measurement with widely known ultrasonic resonance method. We have detected appearance the maximum on the dependence of internal friction (Q-1) from dose at 5 × 105 rad in the specimens of p - Si with a density of the dislocations more than 103 cm-2. The instability of the dislocation structures has been established in the range of doses from 106 up to 109 rad, due to the formation and accumulation in the crystal lattice of the point like and the continuous radiation defects. On the time dependence of Q-1(t) per 1.5 - 2 hours after irradiation, the maximum has been established which position depends on dose of radiation. The monotonic decrease of Q-1(t) dependence was observed at the increase of the observation time after stopping of the specimen irradiation, which is connected with decreasing of the radiation defects densities as the result of their annihilation.

Abstract:

An analysis of the efficiency of the ginning of cotton fibers with two saw cylinders has been carried out. In comparison to a one-cylinder machine, the 2 cylinder approach can help to preserve the natural characteristics of cotton fiber and seeds. This technology allows economizing electricity and decreasing damage to fiber and also increases the productivity of the machine.

Abstract: Objective: To discuss the surgical treatment of recurrent osteoma of the mastoid process of the temporal bone, that obstructed external auditory canal causing unilateral conductive hearing loss. Setting: The study was carried out in ENT Clinic, University Clinical Center of Kosovo, Prishtina, Kosovo. Design: Retrospective review of a clinical case. Patient, Intervention and Result: We treated surgically with success a 14-year-old boy with osteoma of mastoid process, obstructing the external auditory canal of the left ear and causing conductive hearing loss. Axial and coronal computed tomography scans revealed an compact bone lesion that obstructed the canal. Complete removal of the lesion was achieved by a retroauricular approach. Conclusion: In order to achieve complete removal of the osteoma, drilling of the lesion must be performed not through the tumor, but around the osteoma, in the surrounding bone tissue.

Abstract: Now a days with advances in computer science and increase in processor speed, modeling methods have found extensive applications in industrial fields. Coloured Petri Nets are one of these modeling methods. Coloured Petri Nets are based on graph theory and are applied specifically for concurrent and asynchronous applications. As executable models, they are capable of graphical description of complicated systems. On the other hand, development of hardware and other peripheral computer resources and development of various computer software systems call for efficient and powerful operating systems so that users can use the software and hardware items in an effective manner. The purpose of this research is to study the application of Coloured Petri Nets for modeling resource management in operating systems with the aim of optimal utilization of resources and Deadlock Avoidance in the operating systems.
