The occurrence and development of 'Siamese twins' and other abnormalities in Oreochromis mossambicus (Pisces, Cichlidae)
K.K. Holden,M.N. Bruton
African Zoology , 2012,
Abstract: ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Specimens from a clutch of Oreochromis mossambicus (Pisces, Cichlidae) exhibited a number of abnormalities such as enlarged pericardia, thin tube-like hearts, large depressions in the yolksac, spinal deformities and twinning. Descriptions of the differences in early ontogeny of two pairs of 'Siamese twins' over a period of at least eight days are given. The developmental pattern of the twins is similar to that of normal specimens but the developmental rate is slower in the twins. Possible explanations for these occurrences of polyembryony are given.
A life-history approach to the early ontogeny of the Mozambique tilapia Oreochromis mossambicus (Pisces, Cichlidae)
K.K. Holden,M.N. Bruton
African Zoology , 2012,
Abstract: ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The early ontogeny of Oreochromis mossambicus (Peters) was followed from the time of egg activation until the juvenile period. Development is direct and consists of an embryonic period of approximately 15 days. The embryonic period can be divided into a cleavage, an embryonic and a free-embryonic phase. A detailed developmental description is given and the relationship between the early ontogeny and the early life-history pattern is examined. The terminology used for the last step of the free-embryonic phase and a possible truncated larval period is discussed.
Nutritive and Anti-Nutritive Composition of the Wild (In-Edible) Species of Dioscorea bulbifera (Potato Yam) and Dioscorea dumentorum (Bitter Yam)
M.N. Ogbuagu
Journal of Food Technology , 2013,
Abstract: The determination of the nutritive and anti-nutritive principles in the uncooked sand cooked wild species of Dioscorea bulifera and Dioscorea dumentorum showed that the wild yams contain all the food nutrients within the reported and acceptable values for root and tuber crops. The presence of alkaloids, oxalates and saponins at high concentrations are responsible for the qualification of the yam species as wild (poisonous) and in-edible. However, the cooking of these yam species reduced these principles to values that may earn the wild yams consideration as food for consumption.

Environmental Research Journal , 2012, DOI: 10.3923/erj.2011.140.148
Abstract: The all important need for self-reliance and technology in Nigeria calls for teachers to meet the requirement of the new national policy on education. The concern of this study is therefore, focused on the problems of geography education in Nigeria. It examines the rural-urban variables affecting the teaching and learning of geography in Imo state. The sample for the study comprises ten schools, five each from rural and urban areas. Structured questionnaires were distributed to school principals and geography teachers of the sampled schools and contingency analysis employed to test for the significant differences. The major findings of the study include the following. That one consistent indicator of differences in schools certificate geography achievement is school location.
The Effect of Commercial Soyalecithin on the Physico-Chemical Properties of Some Vegetable Oils
M.N. Ogbuagu
Journal of Food Technology , 2013,
Abstract: Lecithin determination in crude palm oil, palm kernel oil, soyabean oil and corn oil revealed that the soyabean oil sample has the highest percent lecithin; 2.72% while palm oil sample has the least value; 0.43%. The addition of commercial soyalecithin to the oils resulted to a decrease in the thermal stabilities, cloud points and saponification numbers (S.N) of the crude oil samples. It also resulted to an increase in the iodine values (I.V), the percent free fatty acid (FFA) content as well as a better ability of the oils to withstand cold condition.
Possibilistic Pertinence Feedback and Semantic Networks for Goal`s Extraction
M.N. Omri
Asian Journal of Information Technology , 2012,
Abstract: Pertinence Feedback is a technique that enables a user to interactively express his information requirement by modifying his original query formulation with further information. This information is provided by explicitly confirming the pertinent of some indicating objects and goals extracted by the system. Obviously the user cannot mark objects and goals as pertinent until some are extracted, so the first search has to be initiated by a query and the initial query specification has to be good enough to pick out some pertinent objects and goals from the Semantic Network. In this paper we present a short survey of fuzzy and Semantic approaches to Knowledge Extraction. The goal of such approaches is to define flexible Knowledge Extraction Systems able to deal with the inherent vagueness and uncertainty of the Extraction process. It has long been recognised that interactivity improves the effectiveness of Knowledge Extraction systems. Novice user`s queries is the most natural and interactive medium of communication and recent progress in recognition is making it possible to build systems that interact with the user. However, given the typical novice user`s queries submitted to Knowledge Extraction Systems, it is easy to imagine that the effects of goal recognition errors in novice user`s queries must be severely destructive on the system`s effectiveness. The experimental work reported in this paper shows that the use of possibility theory in classical Knowledge Extraction techniques for novice user`s query processing is more robust than the use of the probability theory. Moreover, both possibilistic and probabilistic pertinence feedback can be effectively employed to improve the effectiveness of novice user`s query processing.
Environmental Education and Issues in Oil Exploration-A Case Study of Oguta L.G.A. of Imo State
M.N. Obasi
The Social Sciences , 2013,
Abstract: Issues in oil exploration, the writer attempts to increase public awareness on the relationship between environment and development and involve all concerned in an effort to check pollution caused by oil exploration. In order to make a good Research, few hypotheses were formulated. Gas flaring has undoubtedly played a role in the degradation of the environment. Plants and animals do not benefit from oil exploration due to spills and there is loss soil nutrients, diminution of cultivable lands and low economic development despite oil exploration. The sample area consists of those Communities in Oguta Local Government Area where major oil activities take place. These are Oguta urban, Ezi-orsu and Izombe. The data are collected through the use of Questionnaire and such are analyzed using frequencies and percentages. From the data analysis, findings were made and conclusions drawn.
Static calculation and analysis of spatial rod system (rus)
Kirsanov M.N.
Magazine of Civil Engineering , 2011,
Abstract: An analytical solution of the spatial elastic statically determinate truss is given. The Maple mathematical system with the inductive method of obtaining solutions for an arbitrary number of rods is used. It allows to estimate the limiting construction properties and to find the characteristic features of truss. The stress and deflection are determined. The solutions of the problem on the rack-truss and the beam-truss are given. It is shown that in some cases due to the constructive design errors the increase in the number of rods under constant load does not lead to a decrease in deflection. The analytical solution reveals this feature.
Inductive analysis of the effect of error mounting on the stiffness and strength of a plane truss
M.N. Kirsanov
Magazine of Civil Engineering , 2012,
Abstract: For the trusses that are part of structures, the existing exact solutions does not contain an important variable parameter - number of panels or bars - and are written for a specific number that significantly reduces the value of them. Some well-known analytical solutions, which are valid for an arbitrary number of cores, usually greatly simplify the model of truss, roughly estimating the grid work, and are, in fact, approximate. With the advent of computer algebra systems we created the opportunity based on inductive method not only to find the exact solutions for any number of panels, but also to use them to evaluate more subtle phenomenon. In the article the impact of inaccurate mounting plane truss settlement through the maximum and minimum forces in the bars is estimated. We present an analytical solution under the assumption that the deviations of the provisions of the host truss are small. Several examples with the model farm scheme shows the potential of the analytical investigation of the stress state of the construction. The obtained solution depends parametrically on the number of panels and dimensions of truss. Inductive method with the support of computer mathematics Maple is used.
