Verticillium-induced Wilt in Pepper: Physiological Disorders and Perspectives for Controlling the Disease
Nieves Goicoechea
Plant Pathology Journal , 2006,
Abstract: Verticillium wilt of pepper is mainly caused by Verticillium dahliae Klebahn. This pathogen alters physiology of infected plants, accelerates their senescence and reduces yield. The decrease in photosynthesis and consequently, in the supply of carbohydrates to forming fruits, together with a premature fall of flowers are related to the limited fruit yield observed in diseased plants. The control of V. dahliae is difficult because it can survive in field soil for several years. For intensively managed pepper, it has been usual to fumigate with methyl bromide prior to planting. However, as this chemical product causes environmental contamination and reduces the diversity of the microflora in the treated soil, its use was phased out under the 1992 Montreal Protocol. Therefore, finding alternative methods becomes essential for agriculture. At present, an integrated management of the crop would be the best strategy to preserve pepper from Verticillium-induced wilt. Such management should include the use of the less susceptible pepper cultivars, the most adequate culture practices and the exploitation of soil symbiotic microorganisms as bioprotectors. More research on the defence signalling pathways and molecular mechanisms employed by plants against pathogens may lead to novel strategies to enhance disease resistance in crop plants, including pepper.
Enhanced Accumulation of Vitamins, Nutraceuticals and Minerals in Lettuces Associated with Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF): A Question of Interest for Both Vegetables and Humans

Agriculture , 2013, DOI: 10.3390/agriculture3010188
Abstract: Lettuce ( Lactuca sativa L.) is extensively grown and is the most widely used food crop for the called “Fourth Range” of vegetables. Lettuce exhibits healthy properties mainly due to the presence of antioxidant compounds (vitamins C and E, carotenoids, polyphenols) alongside significant fibre content and useful amounts of certain minerals. Lettuce can establish a mutualistic association with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). The establishment of the symbiosis involves a continuous cellular and molecular dialogue between both symbionts, which includes the activation of antioxidant, phenylpropanoid or carotenoid metabolic pathways. The presence of AMF colonizing roots of greenhouse-grown lettuces can induce an accumulation of secondary metabolites, vitamins and minerals in leaves that overcome the dilution effect due to the increased size of mycorrhizal plants. Therefore, AMF would allow the intake of minerals and compounds with antioxidant properties to be enhanced without increasing the consumption of lettuce in the diet. In addition, increased quantities of secondary metabolites may help lettuce plants to withstand biotic and abiotic stresses. Our review discusses the influence exerted by several environmental factors and agronomic practices on the ability of AMF for enhancing the levels of vitamins, nutraceuticals and minerals in leaves of green and red-leaf types of lettuces.
Atención a los ni?os y las ni?as víctimas de la violencia de género

Intervención Psicosocial , 2006, DOI: 10.4321/S1132-05592006000300005
Abstract: save the children developed the research "attention to children victims of gender violence" whose objective is to analyze attention given by the protection system for women to children siblings of women victims of gender violence. research findings indicate that professionals of police, social welfare and justice system believe that children are direct victims of gender violence and victims of psychological violence not only because of physical aggressions or as witness of aggressions, but because they experience violence in their diary home live. however, the research denounces also that the protection system for women has not created enough specific protection measures to cover children victims of gender violence, as well as their needs and participation in the decision making process for decisions going to concern them.
Antropología compleja de las emociones humanas
Ramírez Goicoechea, Eugenia
Isegoría , 2001,
Abstract: It has become fashionable to talk and write about the human emotions. We do think that it is time we social (and other) scientists pay more attention to the emotionality of (wo)men. Our approach is an interdisciplinary one, since we believe it is the best way to deal with the complexity of this phenomena. We will concentrate on four major aspects of it: the universality of emotions, the discussion on the relationships between emotion and cognition, the social effects of emotions and the emotional effects of the social, and, at last, the embodied nature of emotion. Ours is an open-ended story , and we hope to contribute to the discussion and encourage further explorations on such a fascinating topic.
Multiple delays in QSO 0957+561: observational evidence and interpretation
Luis J. Goicoechea
Physics , 2002, DOI: 10.1046/j.1365-8711.2002.05574.x
Abstract: Q0957+561A,B is a double-imaged quasar that has been intensively observed during the last 10 years in different optical bands and with several telescopes, and we concentrated on recent public data obtained at the Apache Point Observatory (APO) and the Teide Observatory (TO). When an intrinsic event appears in the light curve of Q0957+561A, its twin event (a similar feature) is seen in the brightness record of Q0957+561B, and thus, one can measure the corresponding time delay. The TO dataset includes two prominent twin events, which were detected with a time separation of 425 +/- 4 days. On the other hand, from the APO dataset, we found a clear evidence for two different time delays associated with two pairs of twin events: 417.0 +/- 0.6 (APO main twin events) and 432.0 +/- 1.9 days (APO secondary twin events), where the APO(main)-APO(secondary) difference delay is of - 15 +/- 2 days. In agreement with the Yonehara's idea, if the three pairs of twin events are originated inside a standard hybrid source (accretion disk and circumnuclear stellar region), the three measured time delays indicate that they do not come from a common zone in the source. Therefore, we can consider that the prominent features are caused by flares in a standard hybrid source and discuss on the size and nature of the region of flares. In this paper it is showed that the more plausible interpretation is that two of the three flares are generated at distances (from the central black hole) larger than 90 pc. Some stellar scenarios can explain the two flares far away from the black hole, while phenomena in the accretion disk cannot cause them.
La atracción turística de un espacio mítico: peregrinación al cabo de Finisterre
Herrero, Nieves
PASOS : Revista de Turismo y Patrimonio Cultural , 2009,
Abstract: This article analyzes the production of the “sense of place” of Finisterre - Cape situated in the Autonomous Community of Galicia (Spain) - and the way it is used to promote its namesake village as a tourist destination. The essay highlights the global and local factors as well as the plurality of social actors that intervene in this process and their different interests and actions. Moreover, it shows the role played in this by the mythic narrative created by the forerunners of the Galician nationalist tradition who identified Galicia as an Atlantic Land′s End. This narrative allowed actors to propose this village as the goal of the pilgrimage to Saint James of Compostela so that it could benefit from the tourist promotion of Galicia largely based on the cultural heritage of the Pilgrim′s Way. The meaning of this place today is related to a secularised experience of the pilgrimage and to the pilgrims ritual practices inspired in the aforesaid myth.
Arte de género: cuerpos profanados y fenómenos andróginos

Revista Observaciones Filosóficas , 2009,
Abstract: In the present test we analyze different discourse of genre contextualized inside the contemporary feminist art. Along the following pages, we have selected a series of works realized by artists women, investigating the image that the genre occupies in her works, in order to complement, to facilitate and to go deeply into the comprehension and reflection of the same one. We think that far from being an exhausted topic, they come together in it great quantity of debates of cultural and social, political and historical interest.
Los diálogos lucianescos de Francisco Sobrino

Enthymema , 2010, DOI: 10.6092/2037-2426/761

Renormalization of the 1S0 One-Pion-Exchange NN Interaction in Presence of Derivative Contact Interactions
J. Nieves
Physics , 2003, DOI: 10.1016/j.physletb.2003.05.009
Abstract: We use standard distorted wave theory techniques and dimensional regularization to find out solutions of the nucleon-nucleon Lippman--Schwinger equation with a kernel determined by the Weinberg's next-to-leading potential, which consists of one--pion exchange and additional contact terms with derivatives. Though for simplicity, we restrict the discussion to the $^1S_0$ channel and to contact terms containing up to two derivatives, the generalization to higher waves and/or number of derivatives is straightforward. The undetermined low energy constants emerging out of the renormalization procedure are fitted to data.
